I hijack your Wii

For contractual reasons I can’t go into specifics, but chances are good that if you own a Wii and will be buying English-language Wii products in the near future, what you hold in your hands has to some extent been Turningpin’d.

This would be one of the reasons I’ve been so busy lately. (Though said busy-ness has apparently failed to have made a dent in the blogging routine.)

Put simply — and to use a dead-ass meme — all your instructional manuals are belong to us.

And on occasion, all your game text are belong to us.

Ever come across the phrase “the big boss,” then rest assured that you have been enjoying a John Turningpin production, courtesy of John Turningpin Studios, in association with John Turningpin Co., Ltd.

Yup.

  1. Well, I don’t own a Wii, but that sure as hell makes me want to run out and get one!

And that Shiseido game, the one that takes a picture of your face and recommends makeup. That would be fun.

  2. My ex-gf used that Shiseido game once… She took a pic of her face and it quickly spat out the Chuo line rapid express train schedule.

    Weird…

  3. I just got a Wii and I’m looking forward to getting a game that will allow me to cause some damage … preferably with a lightsaber.

  4. That’s so cool.. please tell me you embellished some of the translations to fulfill some weird childhood dream.

  5. Mate, I’ve been translating professionally for coming up on 10 years now, and during that time I have dropped more bombshells, memes and sexual innuendos than I can count. Back when I had an actual translation staff, I had them actively looking for ways in which — without compromsing the integrity of the translation — to insert lines from ’80s-era Arnold Schwarzenegger movies. If you can’t try and have a little fun on the job, what’s the point? 🙂

  6. “John Turningpin Studios, in association with John Turningpin Co., Ltd. ” … very amusing indeed, possibly inspired by ‘A Billy West Publication”

  7. Uh-oh, I sense I’m being made fun of 😦

  8. That wasn’t the intention at all man. Ever see Eddie Murphy’s films back in the day that would credit him like four times for various roles before the movie title even comes up? That’s where it came from, sort of an in-joke my nerdy friends and I used to milk all the time. (JT has friends lol wut.)
